2015 GreenWay Art Prize Results

Gauri Torgalkar Urban Haiku Greenway Ink 20x95cmThe winner of the 2015 GreenWay Art Prize was Gauri Torgalkar who won a $4,500 prize package for her Ink and graphite on Japanese paper work titled Urban Haiku along the GreenWay (pictured).

This year the Art Prize received a record number of entries in the highly popular, annual community arts event that celebrates the precious urban green corridor in Sydney's Inner West. A total of 140 entries were received and 41 works were selected for exhibition.

The winners of the ArtPrize were announced at the opening night of the GreenWay Art Exhibition, hosted by Art Est. Art School and Gallery, Leichhardt.

The winner of the inaugural Cooks River Small Sculpture Prize of $2,000 sponsored by the Cooks River Alliance was won by the ACAB Collective for a mixed media light sculpture titled Primamateria

The $1,000 Community Art Prize which was open to residents of Ashfield, Canterbury, Leichhardt or Marrickville Councils was won by Laraine Deer for her watercolour and gouache on clayboard titled work titled No Standing.

Judges for this year’s GreenWay Art Prize were Jason Wing (Visual Artist) and Gina Fairley (National Visual Arts Journalist ArtsHub).

The GreenWay Team would like thank all the talented artists who entered the competition and are inviting everyone to view the quality exhibition which runs until November 22 at Art Est. Art School and Gallery, 69 Lords Rd, Leichhardt. The exhibition will be open from 10am-9pm Monday to Wednesday and 10am-4pm Thursday to Sunday.

The exhibition will then move to Campsie Library in Amy Street Campsie, where the works can be viewed during Library opening hours from November 25 - 9 December.

The GreenWay Art Exhibition is hosted by Art Est. Art School and Gallery in Leichhardt.
